Erik Luebs, the man behind the moniker, began his musical life learning the drums at the age of 10. Since then he has ventured into other instruments, including guitar, kalimba, electronics, and his voice. To watch him on stage is both inspiring and frustrating for the knowledge that it would either be impossible to replicate or take an insurmountable amount of time to learn to do.

Luebs is a fan of post-rock, jazz, and Japanese music, which creates an interesting sound all his own. His music brings bands like Mogwai (one of his influences), Radiohead, and Mum to mind. Since Luebs started recording his albums, they’ve always been online, for free, on his site, so you can listen as much as you want, whenever you want, to decide who he does or doesn’t sound like.

We met up with Erik last week, and he talked about being a hipster, his music, having a stalker, and Japan.

There are very few artists who make jaws drop just by the pure skill they show in what they do on stage. There are far fewer who also create inspiring music that is pleasing to the ear. One of these unknown artists is Magical Mistakes.
